Man at the Beach – sold

Oil on gessoboard panel, 7″x5″

Another beach study, this time a man walking in brilliant turquoise water. I love this one because the water looks so warm and inviting. I really got into the wet skin reflections and I was pleased that my brushstrokes stayed distinct and spontaneous.

Woman Bathing – sold

Bather (2)

Oil on Canvas 8″x10″

This painting was inspired by the lovely paintings of bathers by Degas and Bonnard. When I look at paintings of bathers in art history I’m reminded that bathing was something of a luxury in past times. These days a bath is no longer a luxury but a deep tub and the time to spend soaking might be. This study is also about contrasts, warm and cool tones, thin glazes with impasto highlights.

Oil on Canvas, 20″x24″

A view of the heart of Paris. One of the loveliest vistas in civilization.

Red Pears on a Silver Tray

pearsdeepOil on hardboard 8×10 inches

A study in textures, brushwork and focus on detail. I’m also experimenting with the hardboard panel which has a very different feel than canvas. It’s tricky to work with but I like the richness of the paint on this surface.
